Ardglass Traditional Sail
The busy fishing port of Ardglass just south of Strangford Lough contains one of the best-kept secrets on the Irish coast. Phennick Cove Marina is a quiet oasis hidden amongst the bustle of the fishing fleet in the commercial harbour.
It is to this idyllic spot that every year in the last weekend of August the NIOGA gathers for its end of season event.
This is a sailing event with a difference, namely that sailing is not really the point! Ardglass is an easily accessible port for the whole of the Irish Sea, so most entrants do all of their sailing for the event getting to the event!
Fun and relaxation is the name of the game, as games are played, music is made, and silly competitions and quizzes fill up the weekend`s itinerary. Indeed, this weekend has been coined "the weekend that's so relxed, it's horizontal..."
